PHA 211 - Microbiolog. Basis of Disease |
This course provides a foundation in basic microbiology with an emphasis on infectious diseases. The student will gain an understanding of the various characteristics of microorganisms in general, and the specific characteristics of pathogenic bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. Topics covered include the different aspects of medical microbiology, identification and control of pathogens, disease transmission, host resistance, immunity, control of infection, and development of microbiological techniques. Prerequisite: BIO201 and Corequisite: Pre-Professional Year 2 status. [3 cr.].
